VA/DC 2024 Rankings: Risers

With our final update to the 2024 class comes some risers that have made a significant jump in the rankings.

Tanner Schaedel 3B / RHP / Cape Henry Collegiate , VA / 2024The Old Dominion commit continues to soar up the rankings, climbing over thirty-five spots in the past year. Most recently he has moved from #15 to #8. Why the gradual increase? While we progress through the classes, early on players are identified with more of a projection outlook, and when we close in on the end of a player's high school career, it is more centered around present ability and performance. Schaedel has long shown the ability to produce in game, but it is not until the last twelve to eighteen months that some of the strength and tools have caught up with his in game abilities. Shows power in both gaps, can hit for average, and while he does not necessarily have a solidified long term position, he is athletic enough to contribute in some different places. The run tool is above average and does not quite get the love that it maybe should because it is not always an outlier in his game, but it is there and it is something that he has the ability to tap into as he continues to mature. While he has some potential in the two-way department, it is the positional portion of the profile that carries the weight and future projection.

Jamie Laskofski SS / RHP / Lake Braddock, VA / 2024If you want to see one of the best pure hitters in the state look no further than this William & Mary commit. Laskofski is a very decorated infielder from the NOVA power, Lake Braddock. He is the District Player of the Year this year, he was all-everything last year, broke the single season hit record at Lake Braddock, and has surpassed 100 hits in his high school career. This season he is batting over .500 with roughly 25% of his hits being for extra bases and as of earlier this week has only struck out once all season. Left handed hitter with an advanced hit tool and an above average runner.

Ayden Schnarrs SS / OF / Cosby, VA / 2024Schnarrs is a producer. Four year starter on varsity, has played multiple positions during that time period, and has hit at or near the top of the order for that entire time. Doubles power to both gaps and some sneaky pop to the pullside. The VMI commit can defend in the dirt and has some versatility to his profile with the ability to contribute in the outfield as well. VMI has had a lot of success with hard nose, gritty, versatile infielders from the Richmond area, with the most recent one being James River (Midlo) product Ty Swaim. Schnarrs makes a jump from #74 to #50.

Dawson Newman LHP / OF / Great Bridge , VA / 2024Newman had a really solid spring in 2023, but it was late in the summer that he started to take off. That jump led him to his commitment to Longwood, which was not long after his standout performance at Unsigned Senior Games. His continued growth has carried over into the spring where he has shown a small uptick in velo and an improved slider that has a chance to play at the next level. Newman's left handed arm and above average slider should be a really solid addition to the Longwood program.

Charlie Gunn RHP / 3B / Mills Godwin, VA / 2024The CNU commit makes the biggest jump in the Top 250, moving from #129 to #70. Gunn climbs over fifty spots after continuing to climb in the velo department as well as showing feel for two breaking balls. Gunn has held velo fairly well into his outings, the arm works, and is heading into a program that has shown the ability to develop arms.
