WEEK 10 SCOUT BLOG
+ 2024 C Cade Arrambide - Tomball - LSU
The LSU recruit had a monster night in Tomball’s district title clinching win. The catcher had 2 home runs, one being a grand slam, and 7 rbi’s on the night. Arrambide has plus raw power and it has been evident in games the second half of the season. He ended the regular season with 11 pumps out of the leadoff spot for a really talented Tomball team. Cade also handles a deep pitching staff, and is getting it done on both sides. Arrambide has a good chance to hear his name called early in July, but until then it’s ring chasing time for him and his teammates.
Watching CJ pitch, it is easy to forget that he is only a sophomore. The maturity with how he goes about his whole operation is really impressive. The righty was on all night, as he had command of all 4 pitches. His fastball topped out at 88 with minimal effort. In a time where most pitchers are worried about the gun, Sampson is focused on dicing up lineups and has been all season. The slider was really working, and got swings and misses all night. While he only threw a couple changeups, it really flashed too. Sampson also had multiple barrels on the night, and as much as I love him on the mound, the upside at the plate may be just as good. Really impressive showing from the sophomore.

Lucas is part of one of the best double play combos in the state with his teammate, Coleman Ryan, and is part of a very talented senior group that is looking to lead them deep into the playoffs. The future Rajun Cajun had some good swings on the night, including a double that he smoked on a first pitch. Lucas is going to provide some thump out of the 2nd base position at the next level. Lucas had good ab’s all night. He didn’t get much action in the field, but during in and out it all looked right.

It’s only fair that we talk about Ryan now, after talking about his DP partner. The Hill JC recruit is rock solid at short and was batting in the cleanup spot for Tomball. He had an rbi single on the night and had good ab’s all game. Ryan’s swing is geared for line drives and gaps, and there is room for more strength. He has good range at short and more than enough arm to make all the plays. To win a state title, you have to be really good up the middle, and with Arrambide, Lucas, and Ryan leading that front for Tomball, it is easy to see why they are one of the favorites to take the title.
While it wasn’t the best night for Bullard and his Klein Cain teammates, the future Aggie showed some loud tools. Bullard is a bouncy athlete, and he moves differently than most. He looks to be really comfortable in centerfield and I see him being able to stick out there pretty easily. He has a frame that is still filling out, but there is some current strength right now. He had an rbi single, and showed plus bat speed from the left side. Bullard’s toolset is fun, and it will be exciting to see him progress.

It feels like there have been fewer freshmen than normal to make their presence felt on the varsity level this year, but Castillo has been one of the consistent ones all year out of the leadoff spot for Byron Nelson. In a win or go home game, the freshman had a big rbi single and a monster rbi sac fly late in the game to help Byron make the playoffs. He plays with great confidence for his age and you can tell he has a plan when he is at the plate. He does a good job of staying inside the ball and using the big part of the field, offensively. Castillo didn’t get a whole lot of action defensively, but was really impressive during pregame. We will see where the body and range go as he matures, but for now he is plenty quick enough to handle short. A great regular season from the freshman.

The Midland College recruit was lights out for Salado in a big district matchup last week. The southpaw had 13 Ks as he went the distance and got the win. His FB was 86-88, holding the velo until the final pitch of the game. He locates it very well and stays out of the middle of the plate for the most part. The CB was 73-76 and he can manipulate the shape to keep the hitters off balance. His best pitch is the CH, at 74-76. It plays very well off the FB and he does a good job matching arm speed. It gets swing and miss and weak contact consistently and is a weapon for him. Overall, Flores does a good job of mixing up his sequencing to where he does not lean on a particular pitch and gets the job done with all 3. He is fun to watch, and it is a surprise when he allows a free pass.
Rogers is an athletic RHP that can bully with the FB when he gets ahead. He was 87-92 in this outing with a lot of the game being 90-92. The release point isn’t always consistent, so he finds himself in deep counts a little more than he would like, but has the ability to pitch out of it. The SL is small but effective at 77-80. He does a good job tunneling it off of the FB. The Texas commit went 5 innings in this outing and struck out 7. He showed calm mound presence with intent behind every pitch and good body language when getting behind in the count. The 2023 Future Gamer is going to throw some meaningful innings for Reagan as they enter playoffs.
Fetters was a member of the 2023 Junior Future Games and this was my first time seeing him in-game since then. The Freshman came out of the bullpen for China Spring and looked solid. He went 3 innings and struck out 5. The FB was 87-89 out of the wind up and ticked down to mid 80’s when he got in the stretch. He shows good feel for spin on a 72-74mph breaking ball that he can land for strikes or bury for swing and miss. The mound presence and competitiveness would have most people surprised to learn that he is a freshman, not letting much phase him in the moment. Fetters is going to be a good arm for China Spring as he continues to get experience and develop.
